Clinical applications

From the dental chair to the bronchoscope.

Ankaferd Blood Stopper® is approved in Türkiye for local use in dental and superficial bleeding1. Published reports describe it in far more places than that, mostly in small studies. This atlas keeps the two apart.

Approved indication · Türkiye
Local application in dental and superficial bleeding, approved by the Turkish Ministry of Health1.
Reported in the literature only
Described in publications, mostly small studies and case series. Not an approved indication.

In the EU, Ankaferd Blood Stopper® is a CE-marked medical device (Class III, Directive 93/42/EEC, notified body TSE) for the topical control of external bleeding, and is distributed in Germany. Status in other regions is still being confirmed.

Atlas of clinical areas Anatomical line drawing of a human figure seen from the front, with six numbered markers: the mouth for dental use, the nose for ENT, the stomach for GI endoscopy, the lungs for pulmonology, the neck, heart, kidney and pelvis for surgery, and the forearm for wound care. Dental and wound markers are solid, showing the approved indication in Türkiye (dental and superficial bleeding); the other four are dashed, showing areas reported in the literature only.

What this atlas does not say.

Six areas, two very different kinds of status. These are the limits that apply to all of them.

  1. It is not a list of indications.

The approved indication is local application in dental and superficial bleeding, in Türkiye1. ENT, endoscopy, surgery and pulmonology are reported in the literature only. In the EU it is CE-marked for the topical control of external bleeding and distributed in Germany; status in other regions is still being confirmed.

  2. The numbers are small.

Much of the evidence is in vitro, animal and small clinical work; the clinical literature is mostly small studies and case series. Reviewers call for controlled trials12. Animal work includes a swine bleeding model from Ankara University6; its exact setting is to be confirmed.

  3. Some effects are investigational.

Wound-healing, antimicrobial and antineoplastic effects must be regarded as investigational1.

  4. Avoid exposed neural tissue.

Biocompatible in most studies, with potential neurotoxicity seen in rodents1. Always follow the Instructions for Use.
